Columbia Bicycle Light Roadster 1896 for sale by The Old Bicycle Cy.

A largely original machine in excellent condition, dating from 1896, from one of the greatest American manufacturers. Top quality fittings on this very light and usable Victorian machine. 23 inch frame. Original enamel to frame. Superb original nickel to fittings. Cotterless chainset and original Columbia pedals. Inch pitch chain. New Departure Model A coaster brake to rear. Plunger brake to front. Superb sweeping handlebars with original cork grips. Beautiful original saddle. The leather cover is unfortunately slightly split (see pictures) but has been canvas lined. Non original 28 x 1 3/4 wheels and front hub but very good quality replacements. Note: The original rims would have been wood, fitted with tubeless tyres. These are notoriously impractical and no decent quality replacement tubeless tyres are available, hence the change to a more practical alternative. A very elegant, light and usable machine in great original condition.
