A good Ghibli will suck the doors off a Ferrari Daytona. Its styling, executed by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his tenure at Ghia, is simply the best front-engined GT of the Sixties: efficient, clean, free of superfluous embellishment, purposeful and light. The 4-cam 4.7 liter Maserati V8 is a paragon of reliability. Maserati's construction, all shops and restorers agree, is the highest quality of all limited-production Italian cars of the period. At its 5500rpm redline the Maserati V8 sings a duet from four dual choke downdraft Weber carburetors and its dual exhausts that is music to the ears of any performance aficionado. The suspension is simple but effective; handling is strong but predictable. There's just nothing not to like about a Ghibli. This 1968 Maserati Ghibli is stunning in its bright yellow livery with black leather interior, the colors in which it was delivered. It has had a comprehensive restoration to better than new condition which earned it Best Italian Sports Car at the Greenwich Concours in 2001. In addition to Campagnolo alloy wheels shod with high performance Avon tires of the proper aspect ratio for its age, it has a Blaupunkt stereo system. Originally delivered through a California dealer, it drives through the Chrysler Torqueflite automatic transmission which Maserati chose while its rivals at Ferrari used GM's lower-performing Hydra-Matics. There is a thick restoration binder with many photos and it comes with its original owner's manual, a parts book and other books and records. Everything has been done and the paint, chrome, upholstery, glass and even the rubber body seals are like new ... or better.
