Editorial: Yesterday Renault announced the return of the famous Gordini name. Like Carlo Abarth in Italy and John Cooper in England, Amédée Gordini loved fiddling with engines and thus became an engine tuner at Renault in the 1950s. After the Dauphine he worked on the R8. He first gave it an 1135cc
engine, later a 1300cc. From the outside the R8 Gordini is instantly recognizable by the two fog-lights mounted at the front. Most came in French racing blue with two white stripes, although this one from 1968 is finished in
white. The R8 Gordini is a very swift vehicle and thus an excellent competitor in historic racing or rallying. You might want to check out this nice little specimen amongst the automobiles offered by Artcurial during their November 16th auction. It’s lot number 37. (photos courtesy
